Each quarter IWCS recognizes a support staff member who has gone Above and Beyond the Call of Duty. Anyone throughout the division is invited to submit nominations. A panel reviews the nominees and selects the quarterly winners. The 2018-2019 4th quarter winner is Brenda Mason,a bus driver for IWCS. We received the following nomination for Ms. Mason from Mrs. Stephanie Pressley at Hardy Elementary:
Safety is our top priority for students and that includes getting them to and from school on the bus. Ms. Mason has been diligent about creating a safe bus for her students. During the school year, Ms. Mason collaborated with Hardy so we could use her bus and complete a lesson on bus safety with our youngest students. Ms. Mason also assisted us with allowing all of our PreK and 1st grade students on her bus and she talked to them about bus safety. She is also working on sharing a song that the students can learn in their classes to help them remember the expectations of the bus. I appreciate her taking time out of her day to help our students at Hardy Elementary.
Ms. Mason is implementing positive reward systems that we utilize in the school with students on the bus to include our Buckaroos system, Golden Awards, and Positive Behavior Referrals. I can also count on Ms. Mason to help me with ideas in regards to student behaviors on our busses. She is always willing to problem solve as well as helping fellow bus drivers.
What really makes Ms. Mason shine is the time she spends getting to know the children on her bus and building relationships with them. She truly shows care and empathy for the children and families on Bus 171.
As part of her award, Brenda received a $50 Visa gift card thanks to the generous support of The Woman’s Club of Smithfield, along with a personalized plaque created in the Smithfield High School MakerSpace.
