Students in Isle of Wight County Schools celebrated Virginia Farm to School week by participating in the Crunch Heard Round the Commonwealth, where all participants simultaneously take a bite out of a locally-grown (Virginia) apple. The event, and other activities throughout the week, recognizes the importance of Farm to School in improving child nutrition, supporting local economies, and educating students about the origins of food.
Students in the Agriculture program enjoyed their apple on the division's working farm, known as the Land Lab. They were joined by Delegate Emily Brewer and Isle of Wight County School Board Chairman Vicky Hulick.
Students in Mrs. McGurn's class at Windsor Elementary crunched down on their delicious apples while Hardy Elementary students enjoyed a juicy apple with their lunch as part of the Virginia Farm to School event.
