Isle of Wight County Schools, Smithfield High School, and Windsor High School are proud to honor the Valedictorians and Salutatorians from the Class of 2020.
The Smithfield High Valedictorian is Brendan Patrick Cox of Smithfield, son of Joan Brauckmann and Dave Cox. During his high school career, he served as the Senior Class Vice President, Captain of the Varsity Debate team, and was a member of Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, BETA Club, and National Honor Society. Cox was a Delegate to Virginia Boys’ State, a participant in the Isle of Wight County Chamber of Commerce Student Leadership Institute, and a Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology (VAST) Scholar. He received a Superintendent’s Academic Letter Jacket for maintaining at least a 3.5 grade point average during high school and was a participant in the Superintendent’s Student Leadership Planning Committee. He was also on the Packers Varsity Soccer team and studied for two years at the Governor’s School for Science and Technology. Cox will be attending the University of Virginia in the fall where he plans to pursue a degree in biomedical engineering.
The Smithfield High Salutatorian is Mathis Aidan Kremer, son of Ellen and Keith Kremer of Smithfield. While at SHS, Kremer was a member of the BETA Club, the National Honor Society, as well as DECA and the Smithfield Political Association. He also served as a Math tutor at SHS, participated in the Varsity Boys Soccer team, and attended the Governor’s School for Science and Technology. He was the recipient of a Superintendent’s Academic Letter Jacket for maintaining at least a 3.5 grade point average during high school. Kremer will be attending the University of Virginia this fall where he will continue his studies in the field of Business.
The Windsor High School Valedictorian is Alexya Gabriele Massey, daughter of Eric Callow of Zuni. While at WHS, Massey served as the President of the BETA Club, Captain of the Varsity Softball team, and earned a Superintendent’s Academic Letter Jacket for maintaining at least a 3.5 grade point average during high school. She will be attending James Madison University in the fall where she plans to study Nursing.
The Windsor High Salutatorian is Steven Wade Branch, son of Julie and Paul Branch of Windsor. During his high school career, he served as the Senior Class President, a member of the BETA Club, participated in the Isle of Wight County Chamber of Commerce Student Leadership Institute, and the Superintendent’s Student Leadership Planning Committee. He also participated on the WHS Scholastic Bowl team. Branch served his community through his roles as a Student Liaison for the Town of Windsor and a member of the Town of Windsor Citizen Advisory Committee. He will attend the University of Virginia in the fall where he will study Engineering.
