The team performed an early Lin-Manuel Miranda play (21 Chump Street) and made it their own with seamless transitions and two outstanding lead vocals. Theater Director Sherilynn Castel prepared the cast of mostly freshmen and sophomores for the challenge. They nailed an outstanding production and finished as VHSL Class 4 State Runner-Up. The team finished just a few points behind the three-time state champion Jefferson Forest from Bedford County. Prior to this competition, Smithfield advanced through Regional and Super Regional competition and joined Jamestown High, Dominion High, and Jefferson Forest in the final four.
