Isle of Wight County Schools is offering an adult education welding program beginning September 12.  The 10 week program will include face-to-face instruction in the welding lab at Smithfield High School on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:00pm. There is no cost to participate. The classes are endorsed by the American Welding Society and will provide safe, expert, step-by-step instruction.  Students may earn an Entry Level Certification in Stick Welding. The application deadline is August 19, 2022. Interviews will be held beginning August 22, 2022.
 
There will also be Adult Basic Education classes (ABE), GED Preparation classes, and English for Speakers of other Languages (ELL).  ABE classes are designed for adult learners who are proficient in English, but want to improve their basic reading, writing, and math skills. Students participate in classes that will help prepare them for GED® Preparation classes. GED classes feature instruction that is tailored to help meet the individual needs of each student. Students can prepare to earn a GED® credential at their own pace. ELL classes are designed for students who want to improve their written and spoken English.
