Comarth Saunders is the new Coordinator of Finance. Saunders holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Christopher Newport University and a Masters in Professional Accounting through Strayer University. She has over 35 years of experience in the field of accounting and finance. Most recently, she served as the Agency Grants Manager for the Virginia Department of Health and filled in as the Acting Deputy Director for Grants for several months. Saunders held previous financial positions with Hampton University, Norfolk State University, the Virginia Department of Transportation, and the Town of Smithfield. She grew up in neighboring Surry County and currently resides in Hampton.
Leigh Ann Speed has been appointed as Assistant Principal at Windsor Elementary School effective November 25. She is a graduate of Illinois State University and Old Dominion University. Speed started her career as an educator in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Since then, she has served in four districts as an elementary school classroom teacher and instructional coach for a total of 19 years. She was most recently the Dean of Students at Creekside Elementary School with Suffolk Public Schools.
Danielle Hewitt is a new Assistant Principal at Smithfield High School. Hewitt most recently served as the Dean of Students at the same school. She has been with the division since 2008 and previously served as a teacher at Westside Elementary School.
