Celebration of Education

Isle of Wight County Schools (IWCS) hosted its annual Celebration of Education in late May to recognize exceptional educators and employees who have made a lasting impact on the division. The event, held at the Smithfield Center, honored Teachers of the Year, the Rookie Teacher of the Year, the Support Employee of the Year, and retiring staff members who collectively represent nearly 500 years of service to education.

Guests were treated to a catered reception by the IWCS Culinary Arts students under the direction of Chef Nic Hagen and Chef Scott Horne, showcasing the talents of the next generation of culinary professionals.

Each Teacher of the Year was recognized with a personalized gift from the division. In addition, the overall Elementary, Middle, and High School Teachers of the Year were presented with elegant silver signet rings, generously donated by Jostens.

The Education Foundation for Isle of Wight Public Schools awarded each Teacher of the Year a $250 check in recognition of their dedication. Deana Hubbell from Carrsville Elementary School, named the overall IWCS Teacher of the Year, received a $500 award from the Foundation.

Rookie Teacher of the Year, Sherry Garris of Carrsville Elementary School, was honored with a personalized gift from the division and a $250 check from the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Support Employee of the Year, Lori Wall of Windsor High School, received a personalized gift and a $250 check provided by ESS, a valued partner of IWCS.

In a heartfelt tribute to retiring staff members, each retiree was gifted a beautiful rocking chair, a symbol of appreciation made possible through a partnership with Smithfield True Value.

The Celebration of Education highlighted the commitment, passion, and excellence that define Isle of Wight County Schools. IWCS extends its deepest gratitude to all honorees and partners for their continued support in shaping the future of education.
