IWCS Hosts Land Lab Tour to Showcase Agricultural Education

Held on-site at the Agricultural Land Lab, the event welcomed 25–30 participants, including representatives from Suffolk Public Schools, regional Farm to School leaders, and members of the Master Naturalists.

The tour provided an in-depth look at the Land Lab facility and curriculum. Student tour guides led attendees through various learning stations, offering insights into what is taught in each area. Educators explained how the program is structured, including class schedules, course offerings, and academic credit.

Following the tour, attendees learned about the origins and development of the Land Lab, including how land, staffing, and facilities were secured. Presenters shared how ongoing funding is sustained through grants and community partnerships, and acknowledged key stakeholders who have supported the program over its seven-year history.

The session concluded with a focus on the program’s impact, including its partnership with School Nutrition and testimonials from current students and program graduates who shared how the experience has influenced their academic, personal, and career paths. A Q&A session wrapped up the event, offering an engaging opportunity for dialogue and collaboration around agricultural education.
