Budget
At a special called meeting on June 26, 2014, the School Board approved the FY 2024-25 budget with revisions recommended by the Superintendent. Revisions included adjustments to reconcile with (1) the budget adopted by Board of Supervisors of Isle of Wight County and (2) impacts of state budget revisions approved by the Virginia General Assembly and Governor Glenn Younkin. The budget totals $97.57 million across all funds including $80.74 million for the General Fund.
Adoption of the budget was followed by a series of meeting in which the School Board discussed the FY 2024-25 budget as follows:
- A special called meeting was held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 to receive and discuss the Superintendent's budget proposals.
- A special called meeting was held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 to further discuss the Superintendent’s budget recommendations.
- A public hearing was held Thursday, March 21, 2024 on the 2024-2025 School Operating Budget. Following the public hearing, the board held a budget work session.
- At its regularly scheduled meeting on March 13, 2024, the School Board discussed revisions to the budget based on county funding and revisions to the state budget.
In May, the Board of Supervisors adopted the FY 2024-25 county budget that included funding for the school division. Following the Supervisors’ adoption of the county budget, the General Assembly increased state funding for school divisions, including Isle of Wight County Schools. The county budget does not include funding increases authorized by the General Assembly and approved by the Governor. The Superintendent will forward budget amendments reflecting action by the General Assembly to the Board of Supervisors for its consideration and approval.
All School Board work sessions and the public hearing were streamed live on the IWCS Facebook page and are available on its YouTube channel.
