Different Look, Same Great School
This video, created by Smithfield High Senior Alexandra Grossman, won 2nd place in the 2020 Virginia School Board Association's (VSBA) ninth annual student video contest. The contest challenged high school students across Virginia to create a 30-second video around the theme of “How Virtual Learning Changed My School Year.” Alexandra’s entry, “Different Look, Same Great School,” highlights how being a student in 2020 Smithfield High School looks different from last year for her and her classmates. Videos were judged on how well they addressed the topic, the quality of the production of the video, as well as the depth of thought and creativity of the video. The contest was open to Virginia public high school students and one entry per school division was accepted.

A Celebration of Veterans
Featured
As we recognize and honor our Veterans today, Isle of Wight County Schools would like to share a special tribute to the veterans who now work for Isle of Wight County Schools. We asked our employees who served in the armed forces to share their information with us. We thank all those who did while realizing there are others who elected to keep their time in the military private. To all of our veterans, thank you for your unselfish service to our beautiful country. We encourage you to play the video with sound on.

A Helping Hand in the Clinic
The division added clinic assistants in the fall of 2021 after schools fully reopened on a traditional five-day schedule. With children returning to the classroom this year, clinic visits have ballooned. The position performs a range of activities including notifying parents when their child is sick, managing data for absences, and helping with contact tracing. Before the position was added, the school nurse was the sole person providing health care for the entire school. The clinic assistants are instrumental in keeping the clinic flowing and providing a safe environment for all children. Join us in recognizing these important members of the school health team. Our clinic assistants are:
